Description:
Hale Mahaolu’s Personal Care Program has been serving Maui County’s frail elderly and disabled and/or chronically ill adults since 1985. Hale Mahaolu coordinates programs which offer homemaker services as well as personal care assistance for individuals residing in Maui County. The goal of these programs is to assist individuals in maintaining an independent lifestyle in their own home and prevent premature or unnecessary institutionalization. In home personal care services include bathing, grooming, toileting, ambulation, exercise, feeding, and related duties such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, and laundry. The Adult Personal Care (Subsidy) Program provides in-home personal care services to frail, elderly, disabled and chronically ill adults (18 years of age and older). Direct payments (subsidies) are made to the client which is used to help defray the cost of their personal care aide (PCA) who provides services in the comfort of the client’s home. The client is eligible to receive up to 4 subsidized hours per day, 7 days a week. This program assists qualified individuals living on the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai. Qualified individuals are part of a ‘gap group’ where they may not qualify for Medicaid or other services such as Kupuna Care.
